Welcome June!

So I have the best news I've ever had in my life.  I had a baby!  She was born on March 29 at 6:06pm in the Logan Hospital.  She weighed 8lbs even and is 20 inches long.  We named her June Elizabeth Heaps.  She's a really strong and healthy girl who loves eating and hates taking baths.  I'm still amazed she's ours.  What an amazing past week this has been!

For any friends who are interested, here's the whole story:
On Wed. the 28th I went into the Doctor for my 39 week check up.  We had been talking about me having to be induced because of some health issues.  Also, I was so huge and so uncomfortable and I was afraid the baby was getting too big.  On Wed, the doctor asked me when I would like to be induced and I said "How about today?"  So he called the hospital and they said to come in that night at 7 and be induced.  I went home and went into a cleaning/organizing frenzy!  When Jake got home from work, we got our hospital bag (which I had packed at like week 32 just in case) and went to the hospital and checked in.  They started me off with cytotec to get contractions going.  I labored all through the night. The next day, the doctor came to break my water.  I asked to have an epidural before that happened.  I have to say I am really thankful for epidurals.  I think they are God's gift to women!  After I got it, I was able to relax and focus more.  Then they broke my water.  I have to say that is the weirdest feeling ever.  Progress was slow for a while.  I wasn't dilating very fast.  Then I really tried to focus on the baby lowering (a trick I heard from Cindy).  I went from a 4 to an 8 in 1 hour!  After that I was slow in getting to a 10, so they gave me Pitocin which made for rock-hard contractions.  I am so glad I couldn't feel them.  Then it came time to push!  I pushed for 2 hours!  She just wouldn't come.  The doctor finally came and said that the baby was stuck and wouldn't come around the corner.  She gave me the option of continuing to push, or using the vacuum extractor to get her out.  I hated to do that to the poor baby, but I'm sure being stuck in the birth canal isn't fun either, so I went for the vacuum extractor.  She was out within 10 minutes!  They put her right up on my chest.  It was amazing to see a this baby that was mine and had been inside of me for so long!  She has the most beautiful eyes.  Then they took her over to a table to get cleaned up and test her baby strength (ha ha) while I got stitched up.  They brought her back to me to hold and my parents came in. My Mom and I cried of course.  Then they wheeled me upstairs to our recovery room.  We went home Saturday evening and have been trying to figure things out since!  She loves to sleep all day and cry all night!  This past week and 1/2 has been hard.  I'm glad my Mom was here for some of it.  Babies usually seem so fragile to me.  Whenever I held someone else's newborn before, I was afraid I might break it, but with Junie she seems so strong.  When it's your own baby, you sort of just feel like you have things under control even though you totally don't know what you're doing.  I am so thankful to have her in my life!  It still seems unreal almost.  Anyway, there's the whole long story.

More pictures to come!  (I need to find my camera cord).

We are so happy for you, and glad that all went well! It can feel overwhelming and exhausting for a while, but give it a few months and life starts getting a lot better. We'd love to see more pictures!
