And now a post about painting the stairs...

So we have these cool old stairs in our house that have needed attention for a long time.  When we moved in, there was nasty, smelly carpet on them.  We tore up the carpet, but have never had time or supplies to fix them up.  We got the rails painted, but that's about it.  So.... I decided it was finally time to do something about it!  Jake doesn't have time to help, so I did it all by myself. {woman power!} I had to get a special kind of floor paint at Home Depot, and they added some sand stuff to it to give it more grip.  Here's a photo of what they looked like when I started:

We thought we tore up all the nails and staples after we removed the carpet, but look what I found:

Next, I had to fill up all the nail holes and cracks with this wood filler stuff from the store.

(I look like one of those Price is Right ladies)

It strangely looks a lot like peanut butter.

 Feels like it too.

 After it dried, I had to sand it so it was smooth.  Hand sanding was taking forever, so Jake got me out the power sander!  I never thought I would be using power tools.  {woman power!}

Sanding them down makes a terrible mess:

Next I had to tape them.  That was the part that took the longest I think.  I took me a couple days, actually.  But that's because I watch the baby most of my day.

Then I painted every other stair so we could still walk on them.  And......

Voila!

 I conquered those stairs.

I think it turned out pretty well.  Here's the before and after right next to each other:

In other news, June says "bum", I burnt this bread,

 and sewed a skirt.
the end.

Wow Karlee!! I love so many things about this post. Here let me name a few in no particular order:

1. Your stairs look freaking awesome and I'm seriously impressed with your 'woman power' skills!!

2. You look super cute, and there's no way you birthed a baby!

3. I love that June says 'bum'.

4. Your skirt is so cute, and although it's unfortunate that you burned your bread, I love that you posted about it!

5. I seriously love anything you blog about, and how you describe things, so basically keep it up, because I'm thoroughly entertained over here in England!

Yay for "Woman Power"! You are awesome! I don't think I would have tackled those stairs solo. Way to go! And I love the "other" news too - June getting so grown up, and you being amazing again with your sewing skills! Glad things are going well!
